Hoot
Owl
Blues
©2004 Janis Carper
Listen to
that hoot owl, can you hear him callin?
He’ll sing the blues til the sun goes down
And when that darkness starts a fallin'
He spreads his wings without a sound
He makes you
think he’s sad and lonely
With his song so mournful blue
Like
he has lost his one and only
And his heart’s broken in two
Hoot owl does his
business
In the dark of night
Wise and silent stalker
he’ll chase the morning light
Listen to
that hoot owl, he’s got your number
And he wears your judgment thin
After
awhile you'll start to wonder
What kind of hold he’s got you in
Listen to
that hoot owl, can you hear him cryin?
I think he’s callin’ out your name
The
song he’s singing makes you think he’s dyin’
That’s how he plays his lonesome game
Hoot owl
does his business
In the dark of night
Wise and silent stalker
he’s got you in his sights
